8 Easy Kitchen Organizing Tips
/1. If your large utensils drawer is full to overflowing, place frequently needed utensils like wooden spoons, spatulas, whisks etc. in a vase or container and set on a bench top for easy access.
2. Place appliances like food choppers, hand mixers, electric knives etc. along with all their attachments into a basket or cardboard box before placing in a cupboard to avoid having to fossick around for bits and pieces every time you want to use them.
3. Avoid messy drawers by storing twist ties and other little bits and pieces in separate zip lock bags where you can access them easily.
4. Pegs and bull clips are great ways of securely closing plastic bags. Think dog biscuits, packets of rice crackers or biscuits and plastic bags in open cereal boxes for starters.
5. Recover some kitchen bench space by replacing a knife block with a magnetic bar affixed to the wall. This securely hold your knifes in place and displays them in a way that allows you to see which knife you’re reaching for.
6. Some vegetables prefer counter top storage to the fridge. Garlic, shallots and onion for example can go mushy if refrigerated. A bamboo steamer (with lid) can serve as an ideal food container keeping contents aerated and also away from the light – which stops onions from going bitter and helps prevent garlic from sprouting.
7. Spices can make all the difference when creating a tasty meal but unfortunately lots of little jars take up precious space and can become hard to access. Solve this problem by mounting a spice rack inside on a pantry wall or hang a narrow basket shelf inside a cupboard door. Remember to store away from the stove as heat degrades the quality of dried herbs and spices.
8. Free up a kitchen drawer by storing plastic bags in empty paper towel tubes or hanging bag holders making them convenient to grab and go.
