6 Super Handy Laundry Hints

Here are 6 tips to help make you more efficient and effective in the laundry.

Do you find body oil stains on shirt collars this is hard to remove? Try rubbing hair shampoo directly on the stains. Rinse out the shampoo, then wash the clothes as usual.

Tumble dryers use up a lot of energy. To reduce your drying time and electricity bills try this quirky tip: Toss in a few tennis balls in each dryer cycle to cut drying time by 25% - 50%. Not only will you save money and help save the planet but you’ll also fluff up your clothes and towels so they feel delicately soft.

To help prevent your dark coloured clothes from fading in the wash use the coolest water possible. Also make sure you turn clothes inside out to wash and hang out on the line. If drying in a tumble dryer use the lowest heat.

It doesn’t take long for a shower curtain to get grimy with a soapy build up. Relax, there’s no need for hard labour… just pop it in the washing machine with a cup of white vinegar, a couple of towels and a normal amount of washing powder. By adding some fabric softener you’ll also help keep the curtain clean for longer. When the load is done simply rehang the curtain in the bathroom to drip dry.

If you have a zipper that is not sliding smoothly try rubbing a bar of soap over the teeth.

Don’t you hate it when you find lint all over your dark clothes? Avoid this happening by (a) washing towels, washcloths and dishrags separately as this is where the majority of the lint comes from and (b) prevent lint from sticking to clothes by adding a cup of distilled white vinegar to the load with the detergent.
